A letter from Grand Chief Stewart Phillip

Here from Grand Chief Stewart Phillip himself:

"We’re at a crossroads.

Intolerance and racism are on the rise. Climate denial is getting treated with credibility. Politicians are inciting us to turn on our neighbours and destroy the planet, when we should be standing together.

But in the face of all this risk, I also see hope.

I wanted to write to you about the opportunity we have to build momentum for unity and hope right now in Nanaimo–Ladysmith. Monday is election day in the federal by-election here – and Chief Bob Chamberlin is running to be our next NDP MP.

Bob is an incredible leader. He won’t let anyone get away with letting us down. On the environment, on Indigenous rights, or on anything else.

He led the negotiations to remove fish farms from wild salmon migration routes. He is a powerful defender of our coast against tanker traffic and the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline. He knows that reconciliation and solutions on climate change must go hand in hand.

We need Bob in the House of Commons as soon as possible.

He’ll be a powerful voice for all of us across Canada who want to stand together and fight for a better future for our kids and grandkids. I’m hoping you’ll join me in supporting Bob however you can.

Thank you,"
